Physalis alk. var. franchetii

Physalis alkekengi var. franchetii, commonly known as the Chinese lantern, is a vigorous herbaceous perennial reaching heights of 0.5-1 metre. It features ovate green leaves and small white flowers, followed by large, bright orange calyces containing red fruits. This plant thrives in well-drained soil under sun or partial shade and can become a nuisance if not managed. It is generally disease-free, although it may be susceptible to caterpillar damage. The fruits are harmful if consumed, except when ripe. For propagation, sow seeds in spring or divide in early summer.
